Local Media San Diego 2019 Community Year In Review

Just over a year ago, Local Media San Diego finished 2018 by being acquired by local management, and has become 100% locally owned and operated.  Our dedication to San Diego has always been a priority, and we are proud to carry a local-first attitude toward our programming, decisions and outreach.

We participate in company partnerships for a number community events, by donating station resources such as airtime and personnel, as well as regular volunteerism by LMSD staff at non-profit organizations in need.

Holiday 2018

Community Resource Center’s 37th Annual Holiday Baskets
For the second year, LMSD employees volunteered at the Del Mar Fairgrounds for the 37th annual Holiday Baskets, sponsored by the Community Resource Center organization.  CRC provides free holiday shopping experience to North County Families in need.

Jagger & Kristi’s Christmas Wish
Every year, Magic 92.5 morning show “Jagger & Kristi in the Morning” grant 12 Christmas Wishes to an individual or family in need over the holiday.  Recipients are nominated by a friend, co-worker or loved one by sending a letter to J+K explaining the need, and recipients are unaware of the gift until presented.  Funds are raised by donors in the community and by Magic 92.5 listeners.

2019

New Year’s Blood Drive with the San Diego Blood Bank
On Jan 4, LMSD invited staff and business neighbors on Cornerstone Court to donate blood to available San Diego Bloodmobiles and free lunch.

LMSD Volunteer at SD Food Bank
For Q1 volunteer day, LMSD employees chose to help at the Jacobs and Cushman San Diego Food Bank, assisting with donation processing, organization and facility cleaning.

Padres Blood Drive
All three LMSD stations supported the San Diego Blood Bank and San Diego Padres for their annual Blood Drive at Petco Park on June 18.

Chula Vista Fourth Fest
Three years ago, LMSD met with city officials from Chula Vista and area businesses to organize and bring back July 4th Fireworks to Chula Vista.  The result was “Chula Vista Fourth Fest,” a spectacular fireworks show at the former Olympic Training Center (now called “Elite Athlete Training Center”) with a custom soundtrack set to the fireworks programming and aired on Magic 92.5, Z90 and 91X.

July 13: San Diego PRIDE Parade, and 39th Annual Beach Bocce Ball Tournament for Boys & Girls Club
Saturday, July 13 was a busy and fulfilling day, with LMSD proudly supporting two long-standing San Diego events.  91X, Z90 and Magic 92.5 presented floats to support the San Diego PRIDE Parade, which draws over 100,000 residents to Hillcrest.  And in North County, 91X sponsored the 39th Annual Beach Bocce Tournament which raises over $130,000 for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad.

Cruise for the Cause and Harvest for Hope for the Emilio Nares Foundation
Magic 92.5 takes the lead to support the Emilio Nares Foundation, the award winning organization that provides care and transportation to San Diego children fighting cancer.  In August, Midday host “Xavier the X-Man” produces Cruise for the Cause, a lowrider car show with proceeds to ENF, and the radio station donates resources to support Harvest For Hope annual gala fundraiser in September.

September 21: 100 Wave Challenge, Walk for Alzheimers, Clash at Clairemont, Adams Ave Street Fair
Another busy day full of community events that all deserve attention for their impact.  LMSD is donating airtime and resources to support:

-The 100 Wave Challenge, a day of surfing to support Boys to Men mentoring program.

Walk for Alzheimers, Team LMSD will walk at Mission Bay to bring attention and funds to cure this terrible disease.

Clash at Clairemont, a day of skateboarding and BMX riding organized by San Diegan and X-games vet Andy MacDonald to benefit Grind for Life and the YMCA.

Adams Avenue Street Fair, a free two-day street festival and concert, and will include a 91X custom-brewed beer to be sold with a proceed of proceeds going to John Adams Elementary to benefit the school garden club.

91X Inspired By Music Concert Series
Last year, 91X, Belly Up Entertainment and the San Diego County Office of Education teamed to create the “Inspired by Music” concert series, where of $1.00 of every ticket sold to IBM concerts held at the Music Box in downtown San Diego would go to a grand fund operated by SDCOOE.  13 concerts later, and with help from a matching donation from Green Flash Brewing Company and donations from additional ticket sales, the IBM fund is pacing to reach $20,000 by the end of 2019 and is in preparations for a grant dispersal to teachers in early 2020.
